On May 2 of 2013, the Fundación Francia Solidaridad en Colombia, sponsored by the Embassy of France in Colombia, inaugurated the auction SoildArte 2013 to benefit disadvantaged young Colombians seeking a university education.
The first edition of this auction occurred in 1997 and, for this sixth edition, SolidArte will present a show that includes the participation of 75 Colombian artists who represent different moments and generations in the history of art in Colombia. This silent auction will take place from May 22 through May 29 of 2013 at the Galería EL Museo in Bogota and is supported by the Embassy of France in Colombia and by the artists of Colombia who contribute to this initiative by donating a significant part of their work.
Since 1995 the Fundación Francia Solidaridad en Colombia has been working closely with the Embassy of France to achieve certain educational and social goals geared toward ensuring that Colombian students complete their university degrees.
To this date, the foundation has been able to offer more than one hundred thirty scholarships to Colombian students. At present time, most of those benefited by the initiative belong to the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, an institution with which an agreement has been established to guarantee the education of these young students from different parts of the country and who are completing different careers. These scholarship pay for their entire university education and also cover other expenses incurred by the students during their educational project.
To continue providing economic aid toward education, the Fundación Francia Solidaridad en Colombia, organizes several events associated with important artistic manifestations that, in turn, strengthen the cultural relationship between Colombia and France.
SolidArte 2013 celebrates 18 years of a social initiative developed by the Fundación. Its artistic exhibition aims at bringing together prominent works from great masters and contemporary Colombian artists like Fernando Botero, Santiago Cárdenas, Beatriz González, Alejandro Obregón, Edgar Negret, Débora Arango, Ana Mercedes Hoyos, David Manzur, Pedro Ruiz, Luis Fernando Peláez, Alberto Baraya, Maria Elvira Escallón and José Alejandro Restrepo, among others. This selection includes more than one hundred paintings, drawings and sculptures from various antistatic currents and by consecrated artists.
A public exhibition of the work for auction will be held from May 23 through May 29. The closing event and the announcement of the winner is scheduled for May 29 of 2013.
