Sísmica, the Chilean brand under the alliance between ProChile and AGAC (Asociación de Galerías Arte Contemporáneo Chile), appointed Pedro Comparini as its new director in the first weeks of 2021.
The first initiative since his appointment is the digital multiplatform, which integrates editorial content and commercial strategies to promote the Chilean visual arts sector activities and make all its agents visible in a transversal way.
In a recent interview published on the Sísmica portal, Comparini describes his three "big" objectives as:
"The most important is developing the first Digital Platform for Visual Arts in Chile, www.sismica.art, (…) Additionally, we are gathering the largest registry of visual arts workers in Chile, which will make up the National Guide for the Visual Arts. We want sismica.art to be the epicenter of the visual arts, uniting all the members in a dynamic platform, a permanent exchange link.
A second objective is to open ourselves to creating interactions with other industries, which are enhanced by the visual arts. For example, the financial market, which increasingly understands that art is an asset with a return, (…). Or the real estate industry, which improves its value by bringing art in its square meters. Today, Chile's visual arts have, must, and can create new models of innovation and collaboration. And, in this sense, we have had a very good reception from many industries and public and private entities with whom we are talking.
Finally, we believe that it is very relevant to include the visual arts role of 3000 in the conversation of Chile's new Constitution. To do this, we must formalize and professionalize the sector and create bridges between public and private entities. In summary, (re)creating the ecosystem of Chile's visual arts, most probably, from the gestation of a Visual Arts Agency, a space that we are already socializing and is beginning to take shape.
According to Camparini, Chile currently has a fractured visual arts sector but with social, economic, and cultural potential. Under the minimalist strategy that they define "less is more," they will seek "to learn, collaborate and grow, and that these markets are the ones that lead us to see the world as a global market. In this first stage, the commercialization and international positioning will focus on Mexico and the United States to then advance to Europe and Asia."
