Siluetas sobre maleza (Silhouettes on Undergrowth)

Museo Jumex presents Siluetas sobre maleza (Silhouettes on Undergrowth), open until January 5, 2025, a group exhibition that focuses on the ways in which bodies exist and inhabit the territory.
The exhibition presents six Latin American artists from different generations who find themselves in sensorial landscapes materialized in their works. Each of the pieces refers to different contexts, presenting particular places such as the archaeological site of Yagul in Mexico, the Amazon, Panajachel in Guatemala and the archipelago of Guadalupe in the Caribbean. The exhibition presents installations, paintings, video, performance, among others; thus, the museum's rooms explore the contemporary landscape in its political, historical and affective dimensions.
The title is inspired by the relationship of human bodies with the unexplored landscape. For example, in Ana Mendieta's Silueta series the artist draws her figure on the earth making inherent the association between the body and nature. Just as weeds impact the place where they grow, in Siluetas sobre maleza (Silhouettes on Weeds) the artist's work spreads.
Artists: Minia Biabiany (Guadalupe, 1988); Vivian Caccuri (Brazil, 1986); Ana Mendieta (Cuba, 1948 - USA, 1985); Nohemí Pérez (Colombia, 1962); Vivian Suter (Argentina, 1949); Frieda Toranzo Jaeger (Mexico, 1988).
