Selected to the SACO 9 Contemporary Art Festival

In recent days, the SACO 9 Contemporary Art Festival announced the international selection to participate in the exhibition Ahora o Nunca (Now or Never) of the Festival that will take place for the first time at Sitio Cero in Puerto Antofagasta, between October 25 and November 19, 2020.
The jury evaluated 192 proposals from 15 countries, from which seven artists were selected: Paula Castillo (Chile-USA), Remo Schnyder (Switzerland), Simon van Parys (Belgium), Ernesto Walker (Mexico), Daniela Serna (Colombia ), Marisa Merlin (Italy), and Kotoaki Asano (Japan).
The jury was made up by Lía Colombino (Paraguay), director of the Museo de Arte Indígena del CAV / Museo del Barro and director of the Instituto Superior de Arte de la Facultad de Arquitectura, Diseño y Arte of the Universidad Nacional in Asunción; Enrique Rivera (Chile), researcher and audiovisual director of the Bienal de Artes Mediales in Santiago; Fernando Sicco (Uruguay), founder, curator and director of the Espacio de Arte Contemporáneo (EAC) in Montevideo; Yana Tamayo (Brazil), visual artist, educator and independent curator, founder of Nave, autonomous art space; and Dagmara Wyskiel (Chile / Poland) visual artist and director of SACO.
SACO 9’s “Ahora o nunca” exhibition will present seven site-specific projects that address themes ranging from considerations on time and the present through the deconstruction of reading. To a dialogue between colors, lights, and shadows produced by a set of sculptures that will invite us to comprehend the ephemeral of the present. The visualization of the global and cosmic flow of time through the movement of a Japanese beach to the Chilean coast. A circular installation will make us think about eternity, inclusion, and human relationships. An investigation of radio signals to understand the current state of telecommunications technologies and their effects on the exchanges of information. Music and sculpture fused by the wind from northern Chile. An installation that will offer visitors a network of containers and cranes that resemble a city.
The Festival is held annually in the Antofagasta Region, in northern Chile, as an independent initiative of the Collective SE VENDE SE VENDE Plataforma Móvil de Arte Contemporáneo, under the direction of Dagmara Wyskiel and produced by Christian Núñez. Its objective is to establish a permanent nucleus of reflection, criticism, and dialogue through the work in a territory marked by the absence of institutions dedicated to pursuing these ends. In the world capital for copper mining, it proposes an alternative to delving into excavations that are no less valuable, no less urgent, and of renewable wealth - the creativity and dialogue.
