The exhibition "Marcelo Brodsky. Poetic Resistance" was inaugurated
The Foto Colectania Foundation inaugurated "Marcelo Brodsky. Poetic Resistance", an exhibition curated by Irene de Mendoza that gathers several pieces of the Argentine artist. Brodsky has turned his artistic production into a reflection on memory, political activism, and the exploration of the limits of the photographic medium. Marcelo Brodsky (Argentina, 1954) remained in exile in Spain during the seventies and eighties Argentine dictatorship, the violation of human rights in his native country led him to propose works that rescue and resignify historical events marked by violence. It is in this understanding that the artist proposes visual essays that study how collective and individual memory overlap; these are born from the intervention with text and color of archival images.
The dictatorship in Argentina and his exile was the initial theme of Brodsky's work, which would extend to social struggles and human rights violations throughout the world. The exhibition at Foto Colectania brings together four photographic series: "Buena Memoria '' (Good Memory), photos of the artist's schoolmates that relate each one's destiny linked to the events of the Argentine dictatorship; "1968. El fuego de las ideas,” pieces that refer to the Spanish Civil War and the South African apartheid; "Paro Nacional,” deals with the social protests that occurred in Colombia in 2021 and "Rastros de violencia,” about the Namibian genocide perpetuated by Germany at the beginning of the 20th century.
The title of the exhibition at the Foto Colectania Foundation can be understood from statements made by the artist: "Photographs are always open to multiple interpretations, and my interventions in the images suggest a direction. The added texts and colors build an alternative form of language, a poetics of resistance. What I try to do by intervening historical images and recovering their context is to shoot arrows into the future, which is our present."
