The recent death of Colombian artist Beatriz González coincides with the opening of a retrospective in the United Kingdom that revisits more than six decades of her artistic production. Presented at the Barbican Art Gallery in London, the exhibition brings together over 150 works and marks the first show of this scale dedicated to the artist in the UK.
The exhibition spans works created from the 1960s to the present and includes paintings, altered objects, installations, and pieces made using furniture and other non-traditional supports. Throughout her career, González developed a distinctive visual language characterized by graphic aesthetics and bold colors, drawing on images from popular culture, Western art history, and the press to reflect on power, violence, grief, and collective memory.
Co-produced with institutions in São Paulo and Oslo, the exhibition forms part of the Barbican’s spring and summer 2026 programme, which focuses on artistic practices engaging with contemporary social and political issues.
The exhibition will be on view from 25 February to 10 May 2026.
