Santiago Reyes-Villaveces Wins the Abraaj-Royal College of Art Scholarship

The Group Abraaj and the Royal College of Art recently announced the five winners of the Abraaj-Royal College of Art Scholarship, which includes Colombian artist Santiago Reyes-Villaveces. The mission of the Abraaj Scholarship Program is to create a unique community of creative leaders that share the values, integrity and social responsibility upheld by Abraaj and the Royal College of Art. For this reason, the scholarship winners are trained to become creative agents of change that positively impacts their countries of origin. Each student will be enrolled full time in a Master of Arts program at the Royal College of Art. The 2015 winners, which include Colombian Artist Santiago Reyes-Villaveces, were selected by an international panel of international creative leaders that include contemporary artist Yinka Shonibare MBE; Paola Antonelli, senior curator of the De-partment of Architecture and Design at New York's Museum of Modern Art; and Dame Marjorie Scardino. The jury selected the five scholarship holders for their tal-ent, dedication and cultural understanding, and for the sense of social responsibility reflected in their works. The winners of the scholarship are: Sarsenbek Hazken, an astronomer and designer from Kazakhstan, who joins the Innovation Design Engineering program, alongside Pratik Ghosh, a professional healthcare designer from India; Rhine Bernardino, a performance artist from the Philippines, joins the Photography program, Andres Souto-Vilaros, a practicing architect from Mexico, joins the Architecture program; and Santiago Reyes-Villaveces, a university professor and artist from Colombia, joins the Sculpture program. Santiago Reyes-Villaveces has a BA in Fine Arts, with an emphasis in Visual Arts, Art Theory and History from the Universidad de los Andes, Colombia. He has devel-oped artistic work that encourages communities to become agents of change. He has exhibited his work in Brazil, Colombia and Italy. Reyes-Villaveces beliefs that art and innovative thinking can have a meaningful impact in society and that the cultural sector will play a central role the development of Colombia.
