Sandra Vásquez de la Horra: The Awake Volcanoes at the Denver Art Museum

The Denver Art Museum opened "Sandra Vásquez de la Horra: The Awake Volcanoes," the first solo exhibition in the United States by the Chilean artist. The exhibition explores notions of fantasy, fear, and pleasure in De la Horra's artistic production, focusing on presenting her drawings and paintings. Specifically, it delves into how the practice of drawing in Vásquez de la Horra's work questions the limits of the medium, proposing it as flexible and dynamic.
Vásquez de la Horra (1967, Viña Del Mar, Chile) is known for her drawings that explore symbols from various cultures, where female figures take center stage, always portrayed as ambivalent figures. Likewise, Vásquez de la Horra's work explores themes such as freedom, spirituality, and nature. Recently, Vásquez de la Horra participated in the Venice Biennale and was awarded the prestigious Käthe Kollwitz Prize in 2023.
The exhibition will be open to the public until July 21, 2024, at the Denver Art Museum, located at 100 W 14th Ave Pkwy, Denver, CO 80204, United States.
