Under the presidency of Ernst Beyeler, the Beyeler Foundation has chosen Samuel Keller, current director of Art Basel, as its new top officer. Keller will take office in the Spring of 2008, replacing Cristoph Vitali. The Beyeler Collection, comprised of works by Modern-art masters, grew over a period of 50 years in parallel to the success of Hildy and Ernst Beyeler¿s gallery. It became a foundation in 1982, and was shown to the public in 1989, at the Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid. It currently includes more than 200 works. Samuel Keller is internationally renowned for his significant work leading art events and exhibitions. As he takes on his new role, Keller will resign the direction of Art Basel, but remain in the board.
