"Being and Doing" Gallery at the Museo Nacional de Colombia

The "Being and Doing" gallery is part of the Integral Renovation Project that includes contemporaneity and current problems, intercuratorial dialogues, and a change in the museographic approach of the Museo Nacional de Colombia.
The gallery's purpose is to strengthen the creative dialogue between the works housed in the Museum, conceived from the creativity of artists and artisans. The connections between the different works are established in multiple ways and invite the observer to find them. In addition to the works, there are some objects that have been manufactured with other functions, such as historical distinction or ritual exercise.
The researchers of the Curaduría de Arte oversaw the museographic script. For them, in "Being and Doing" in the space, there are works that evoke the tranquility of a plains landscape, ornaments used to dignify the body in special events, a traditional craft of the middle Cauca, the cadenced rhythms of a Pacific marimba or the past time retained by the verses of a poet from Momposino. The fortuitous connections between the objects in this room reflect different approaches to the creative being in his daily life.
"We opened this gallery as the beginning of the renovation of the third floor of the Museum and fulfilling the schedule we had set for the 17 galleries to be completely renovated by 2023. This room is an invitation to contemplate the Museum's art collections in dialogue with other wonderful works of history, archeology, and ethnography," added Director Juliana Restrepo.
This renovation was possible thanks to the support of the Colombian Ministry of Culture, the efforts of the Museum's entire staff, and the assistance of the Association of Friends of the Museo Nacional. We highlight the work of the Museo Nacional's curators, especially the Curaduría de Arte, under the leadership of Rodrigo Trujillo.
