Bancolombia Art Gallery

Bancolombia recently opened its Art Gallery in Bogota, Colombia, located in the Atrio building. This new 1,400 square meter space houses a collection of 350 works by Fernando Botero, Alejandro Obregón, Eduardo Ramírez Villamizar, Omar Rayo, Enrique Grau, Édgar Negret, Luis Caballero, Ignacio Gómez Jaramillo, Pedro Nel Gómez, and Francisco Antonio Cano, among others, which are articulated through an innovative staging that builds relationships with contemporary art and society.
Nelson Osorio, curator of Bancolombia's Collections Gallery, in an interview with W Radio (Colombia), explained that it was a challenge to create "an exhibition area, let's say, limited, next to and under the guidance of the great museographer and architect Carlos Betancourt. He has led this whole spatial reference and the selection of 300 works from such a diverse collection, 80 that could somehow, in a transversal language, not chronological, not encyclopedia-like, present Colombian art in an experiential, modern, aerial way."
Those interested will find a series of materials belonging to Bancolombia's historical collection, which shows the organization's transformations since its founding in the 19th century.
The new space plans to consolidate an acquisitions and curatorial committee to ensure that the bank's collection keeps growing. Another of the plans for the Art Gallery is to create alliances with museums, private and public international collections to keep up to date with the fine arts.
To attend and receive a guided tour, please write to the e-mail address saladearte@bancolombia.com.co.
There is no entrance fee, but it is required to present a vaccination card, wear a mask, and keep physical distance, following the museum's biosafety regulations.
