Ruvén Afanador and Ana González exhibit at the Centro de Formación de la Cooperación Española

After traveling at the Museo Nacional de Colombia in Bogota and at Museo La Tertulia in Cali, the exhibition Hijas del agua (Daughters of Water) arrives at the Centro de Formación de la Cooperación Española (CFCE) in Cartagena de Indias.
Photographer Ruvén Afanador and artist Ana González chose the 20 works on display from January 27 to March 18, 2021. This exhibition is part of the 'Hay Festival Cartagena' with the support of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation -AECID and the Embassy of Spain in Colombia.
Daughters of Water is not only a selection of the work that Ruvén Afanador and Ana González made after their travels through different remote places in Colombia, but it also represents a tribute to the ancestral indigenous communities that have inhabited and still inhabit the country. The artists traveled part of Colombia's complex geography and entered areas where access used to be restricted by the activity of armed groups and visited a total of 26 indigenous cultures from La Guajira to the Amazon. Afanador's lens recorded some of these communities: Wayuu, Kogui, Yagua, Tucano, Gunadule, Uitoto, Misak, Yucuna, Arhuaco, Pachacuarí, Nukak, Kamëntsá, Koreguaje, Emebera Chamí, Inga, Nasa, Wounaan.
The exhibition was shown at the Museo Nacional de Colombia in February 2021 and was so well received that the artists donated the photographs to the traveling exhibition program to reach more people in the country, and this time it will go to the capital of Bolivar.
The program includes a discussion moderated by Brigitte Baptiste where artists Ana González and Ruvén Afanador will talk about the protection of nature, the displacement of indigenous communities, and the role of the arts to make these issues visible, on Saturday, January 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the Teatro Adolfo Mejía (Heredia).
