Born in 1951 in the Camaguey province of Cuba, he first studied painting at the Escuela Nacional de Arte and later at the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana. Winner of the UNESCO award for the promotion of fine art and illustrator for Colombian author Gabriel Garcia Marquez, he currently works as an art teacher and artist in Cuba. His most recent works comment on the human condition through Expressionism and Surrealism, but also possess an academic and historical underlying quality.
