The Miami Art Museum presents Rivane Neuenschwander: A Day Like Any Other, an exhibition centered on the early career of this Brazilian artist, bringing together paintings, photographs, films, sculptures, installations, and participatory actions. The selection on display at the Museum makes clear why is it that Neuenschwander has become one of the outstanding figures in the Brazilian art scene. These works reflect her inspiration in nature, the passage of time, the mysteries of perception and of human relationships. Included in this exhibition is I wish your wish (2003), one of Neuenschwander's best-known works, based on a common practice at a Salvador de Bahía church where the faithful tie cloth ribbons to their wrists and ask for a wish; First Love (2010), where a police robo-portrait artist asks visitors to describe the facial features of their first loves; and The Conversation, based on Francis Ford Coppola¿s 1974 film of the same title, a visionary piece of cinema that explores violations of privacy through technology. Neuenschwander's career sheds light on the influence exerted by the poetic musicality of Brazilian conceptual art of the 1960s and 1970s, especially through figures like Lygia Clark and Hélio Oiticica.
