An Oswaldo Guayasamín Retrospective in Brasilia

Thanks to agreements between the governments of Ecuador and Brazil, the National Museum in Brasilia will present a broad selection of works by Ecuadorian artist Oswaldo Guayasamín starting on August 10th.

With the cooperation of the Guayasamín Museum, 80 oil paintings, 200 drawings, 3 sculptures, 30 silk screens, 50 pre-Columbian art items, and 15 Colonial paintings, all belonging to the museum, traveled to Brasilia for the retrospective.

Their journey took place under diplomatic protocols to ensure the safety of the works, and with the presence of the national police, the National Institute for Cultural patrimony, and representatives of the Ecuadorian foreign office.

According to the Museum System of the Federal District and the Directorate of the National Museum, the Guayasamín retrospective will be one of the museum's most important exhibitions, in a roster that includes past retrospectives devoted to the work of artists like Joan Miró, Candido Portinari, Pablo Picasso, and Oscar Niemeyer.
