Residences at Casa de Velázquez

Casa de Velázquez is receiving applications for two residences, one for research and one artistic creation. Open to doctoral candidates and creative artists from member countries of the Ibero-American Conference, as well as Spanish, Portuguese, or Andorran citizens residing in Latin America, the program is intended as an incentive to research and creative activities in a context of full academic and artistic freedom. Application is open to individuals in the process of attaining a Doctoral degree, between the ages of 25 and 40 years old, and to visual artists or music composers between the ages of 25 and 35. Spanish, Portuguese, Andorran, or Latin American citizens residing in Spain are excluded from participation. Applicants for the research residence can submit projects for doctoral dissertation corresponding to the duration of the residence, accompanied by a registration receipt and an accreditation letter from the degree-granting institution; a two-page summary of the project; and a recommendation letter from their dissertation director. The topic must be in the humanities or the social sciences, with sources or a reference domain located in Madrid, and connected to the relationship between Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula. Projects submitted in the visual arts (drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, film, photography, video) or music composition categories must be supported by renowned professionals in either field: composers, critics, gallery managers, curators, etc. Projects for original work are required. The resisdence and financial stipends will have a maximum duration of six continuous months during the period between January 15th and July 15th, 2015. All submissions must be presented directly by the researcher or the artist, with the correponding letter of support. Submissions must include the application form and will be received through October 15th, 2014. Candidates selected for the residence will receive a monthly stipend of 1,000 euros for the duration of the residence, as well as two-way air ticket from their place of residence to Madrid, provided by the Secretaría General Iberoamericana. Casa de Velázquez will cover housing and will provide preferential rates for food expenses. It will also provide the use of its working spaces and research resources, and Residents will be able to take part in the institution´s research and artistic creation activities.
