Artistic Residencies in Mexico for Creators from Latin America and Haiti

Artistic creators from Latin America and Haiti are invited to participate in a call that will give winners the chance to complete a 13 week long artistic residency-from August 20 to November 20 of 2012-and develop an artistic project that would then be presented during the Fifth Latin American Art Exhibition at the Spanish Cultural Center in Mexico. Aimed at promoting cultural and multidisciplinary exchange that leads to the creation of artistic networks and to the exhibition of works in a single space by artists from several nations and heterogeneous forms of artistic expression, the Mexican National Council for Culture and the Arts (CONACULTA), through the National Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA) and the National Centre for the Arts (CENART), announce the call for artistic creators from Latin America and Haiti to participate in a competition that will grant up to 20 artistic residencies in the following disciplines: Visual Arts: Pottery, Sculpture, Photography, Engraving, Graphic Art, Alternative Media, Painting, and Textile. Dance: Choreography. Design: Graphic Design, Illustration, Textile. Literature: Short Story, Novel, Poetry, Creative Essay. Audiovisual Media: Cinematographic Screenplay, Multimedia, Video, Film. Music: Composition. Theatre: Playwriting, Stage Adaptation of Literary Work. The objective of the residency is, on the one hand, to develop a project that will be presented during the Fifth Latin American Art Exhibition that will take place from November 9 through November 16 at the Spanish Cultural Center in Mexico; and on the other, to establish-through academic activities-a connection between the creator's work and the community in which the residency takes place. The call is open to Latin American or Haitian citizens with experience in the artistic discipline they plan to participate in. Candidates must submit an original individual project-never before published or exhibited. The project must be developed during the period of the residency and must result in work that meets all of the requirements stated in the production specifications section of the call. It must also have the right configuration for its adequate exhibition during the Fifth Latin American Art Exhibition. Candidates must enter their applications online at the following homepage: http://foncaenlinea.conaculta.gob.mx. There they must also obtain their user IDs and passwords. Once registered, applicants must select the Convocatorias (Calls) section, and then click on "Convocatorias Abiertas" (Open Calls), and then select the "Convocatoria del Programa de Residencias Artísticas para Creadores de Iberoamérica y de Haití en México 2012" (2012 Call for the Program of Artistic Residencies in Mexico for Latin American and Haitian Creators). The deadline to submit all applications, paper work, and required attachments is April 9, 2012.
