With the purpose of offering artists and curators from Latin America and Haiti a common creative space that enriches individual creative projects and fosters the establishment of networks between artists in those countries, the Mexican government, through its Foreign Relations Department (SRE, in its Spanish initials) and the National Council for Culture and the Arts (CONACULTA), represented by the National Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA) and the National Arts Center (CENART), in collaboration with the Spanish Foreign Cooperation for Development Agency (AECID) through the Spanish Cultural Center in Mexico (CCEMX), will provide up to 20 art residencies of 12 consecutive weeks in Mexico.
There are two categories for participation: Category A for artistic creation projects, and Category B for curatorial projects.
The program encompasses all fine-arts expressions derived from conceptual art, such as performance, installation, body art, land art, process art, environments, actions, and so forth.
It also includes all literary expressions in the essay nature that deal with themes as varied as literature, art, science, everyday life, and humanism in general.
The program is also extensive to art projects using electronic, informational, digital, or analog technologies as media for their production and support, and whose processes, strategies, and genres are defined as net art, sound art, software art, robotics, auteur electronics, auteur interactivity, digital art, tactical media, among others.
The residencies are intended to provide continuity and/or conclude an individual creative project already in progress, and will take place at specialized public institutions in Mexico. These institutions will support artists with the necessary infrastructure to support the development of the projects submitted. The program's Council will designate tutors for follow-up and evaluation of the projects. At the conclusion of the residencies, advances or conclusions of the art projects will be presented publicly in an Open Studio, where residents will dialog and exchange experiences, both with specialists and with the general public, about their creative processes and especially about this specific experience in the Mexican context.
The financing of the residencies will come from the institutions launching the call, which will provide each resident with funds for air travel, lodging, insurance for large health expenses and accidents, and a monthly stipend of 12,000 Mexican pesos.
The institutions will not provide any additional resources for the production of the project.
