In 2019, MAC USP received the donation of 42 works by Regina Silveira in partnership with Luciana Brito Gallery, adding a significant part of her production into the museum’s collection. The MAC USP presents the retrospective exhibition “Regina Silveira: Other Paradoxes” to celebrate this important donation. The title refers to one of her works, The Paradox of the Saint, included in the museum’s collection in 1994.
The exhibition presents engravings produced in the 1960s when Silveira was a young artist that was recently graduated from Porto Alegre. Showing her experiments with image appropriation and video art, she will have the opportunity to (re)visit some of her most remarkable installations and proposals for urban interventions. The exhibition also offers the possibility of comparing many of the works with the sketches and projects they originate from or even with the spatial studies made with scale models. Showcases presenting documents and informative videos round out the visitor’s experience.
This retrospective is part of the expanding network of the 34th Bienal de São Paulo, a partnership between MAC USP and the Fundação Bienal de São Paulo. It reopens the museum’s exhibition annex that underwent renovations to readjust its floor in 2018-2019. The space was designed for site-specific projects, installations, and large works.
