Shelters and Thresholds an exhibition by Dagoberto Rodriguez at the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo Condeduque

MadBlue organizes from January 27 to May 1 in the Patio Central of the Conde Duque Cultural Center an exhibition by Dagoberto Rodriguez (Cuba, 1969) with two of his installations that reflect on the ideas of inhabiting and passing through the world today.
The first one is titled Refugio (Shelters) and is an artistic approach to loneliness and contemporary individualism. The work is inspired by the iconic concepts of island and hermitage as places of retreat and reflection. Thus, it brings these symbolisms to the present day to conceive them as a space free of interference where one can find oneself. Meanwhile, the second composition is Los Umbrales (Thresholds), a series of doors representing the infinite nature and dreamlike passage leading from darkness to light.
Dagoberto Rodríguez is a graduate of the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) in Havana; in 1992 he co-founded the collective Los Carpinteros along with Marco Antonio Castillo Valdés and Alexandre Arrechea, dissolved in 2018.
His works merge architecture, design, and sculpture while playing with humor and irony to address modern art, politics, and society. His work has been exhibited at the Centro Galego de Arte Contemporáneo (CGAC) in Santiago de Compostela, the Museo Extremeño e Iberoamericano de Arte Contemporáneo (MEIAC) in Badajoz, the Tate in London, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, and MoMA in New York, among other institutions.
