Sales records of Latin American art in New York

The lasts Latin American art auctions, that happened during last May and the beginning of June in New York City, left clear the evident interest of the collectors in the Latin American art. This occasion the sales exceeded $50 million and about 30 artists broke previous records. One of these significant cases was at Christie´s, where the Mexican artist Alfredo Ramos Martínez with the oil Flores de México (Flowers of México) went up to $ 4,07 millions, breaking his last record of $1.8 million. At Sotheby´s the work of the Cuban Mario Carreño, Danza Afrocubana (Afrocuban dancing), was sold by $2.6 million, a piece that was not exhibited in public from 1944 and for years that had been in a private collection in United States.
Other works that also broke the record were the ones by the Uruguayans Joaquín Torres García, Composición (Composition) and Pedro Figari, El Palito (Small Stick), the Mexican Francisco Zuñiga with the work in stone Desnudo de Victoria (Nude of Victory) and the Argentineans Marceno Bonevardi, Luis Tomasello and Rogelio Polesello.sello.
