Reopening Van Gogh Museum

Last May 1st, the newly remodeled Van Gogh Museum welcomed its first visitors after its renovation. The museum opened the jubilee exhibition Van Gogh at Work. After seven years in renovation, the museum is ready to receive all comers in its Museumplein. Before opening day, one of the highlights of the show, Self-Portrait as a painter, was placed in the exhibition area in a symbolic act of celebration of the reopening. Van Gogh at Work sheds new light on the artist's evolution, with almost 200 works by him and his contemporaries on exhibit. Through them, visitors will see the evolution of his technique and learn details of his activities in the studio. This is an important panoramic of a multifaceted body of work. It will remain open to the public everyday through January 12th, 2014, beginning at 9 a.m.

The museum's director, Axel Rüger, says: "We are very pleased that the Van Gogh Museum is once again open to the public. This is an important moment in the history of art. The Museumplein's three exhibition complexes have reopened, which is a positive development. We organized this magnificent jubilee exhibition after eight years of exhaustive research, and have included works on loan in order to put together en exceptional panoramic. Visitors will be able to make their own discoveries, using such tools as microscopes and touch-sensitive screens, in a way experiencing how Van Gogh worked".
