Reopening MAC Chile

More than 60 artists are participating in the reopening exhibitions of the Parque Forestal and Quinta Normal venues (August 19 and 25, respectively) of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC) of the Art Department at the Universidad de Chile. In this first stage, visits will be scheduled at: http://mac.uchile.cl./. From Tuesday to Friday, the visits will be in turns and may have a maximum duration of one hour.
Thirteen exhibitions, including the work of Chilean and international artists, during the celebration of the 74th anniversary of the museum, which opened its doors in August 1947.
"It is very important for us to kick off the activities, resuming the bond and dialogue we have with the cultural field and the general public. This precisely coincides with our 74th anniversary and with the first period of exhibitions under my direction. These are dates, times, and contexts that are articulated to promote our role as a university museum where creativity, tolerance, and the knowledge that emerges from the enigmas of our times meet," says Daniel Cruz, director of the MAC.
Among the exhibitions at the MAC Quinta Normal is "Revisionar / La inscripción de miradas," an exhibition with a selection of photographs from the museum's collection that show the variety of styles, formats, and periods of this discipline; this exhibition is possible thanks to the Museum Integral Improvement Fund awarded to the MAC in 2019. This project is organized by the MAC's Conservation and Documentation Unit and aims to enhance the value of the museum's photographic collection, its documentation, preventive conservation, storage improvement, and dissemination.
Today the MAC's photography collection includes 700 works, a figure that has grown over the last 15 years with the entry of nearly 360 works donated and on loan. The exhibition at MAC Quinta Normal shows the latest additions to the collection, including works by nationally and internationally renowned photographers, whose productions date from the 1940s to 2000, such as Antonio Quintana, Julia Toro, Rodrigo Rojas de Negri, Kena Lorenzini, Claudia del Fierro, and Martin Weber.
