Closed since March 2020 due to the pandemic, the Museum of Modern Art will resume its activities on July 2 with an exhibition paying tribute to its creator, Italian architect and designer Lina Bo Bardi (1914-1992). Entitled "O Museu de Dona Lina," the exhibition will present to the public around 300 works by Brazilian artists that are part of her collection and also her collection of popular art, acquired between 1958 and 1966 when she lived and worked in Salvador.
In addition to works from MAM's collection, which includes works by artists such as Cândido Portinari, Tarsila do Amaral, Carybé, João Farkas, José Pancetti, Marepe, Mário Cravo Jr. and Calasans Neto, the exhibition will also feature new pieces donated to the Museum by Brazilian artists such as Maxim Malhado, Ieda Oliveira, and Afonso Tostes and a photograph of Lina Bo Bardi by photographer Bob Wolfenson, which will become part of the Museum's permanent collection.
The reopening plans also include the Solar do Unhão restaurant and the pier and anchorage, which underwent restoration work.
