Rafael Guerrero 4th Torres García Painting Prize

The Associació Sant Lluc per l'Art Mataró announced the winner of the 4th Torres García Painting Prize on May 12 of this year. Peruvian artist Rafael Guerrero (Piura, Peru, 1980) received the recognition that was accompanied by a purse of 9,000.00 euros, for his work entitled Airport. The work is a pastel on canvas and acrylic image that measures 59.05 × 36.22 inches and that only relies on the color black to render the composition. Airport references a partial view in perspective of an aircraft that showcases Guerrero's advanced knowledge of the drawing. He currently lives in Barcelona (Spain) and completed a degree in Industrial Design. The jury included French-Spanish critic, historian, and poet Juan Manuel Bonet; Catalan philosopher and critic Daniel Giralt-Miracle; Spanish critic and sociologist Arnau Puig; Spanish art and literature critic Francisco Rodón; and history art professor Pilar Vélez. Additionally, the jury awarded two Special Mentions to Gonzalo Elvira from Argentina and to Eduardo Martín from Spain.
