Small-Scale Cultural Projects

The Cultural Center of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has launched the call for the 2012 IDB Cultural Development Grant Program to evaluate proposals from arts and cultural institutions, with the goal of partially financing small-scale cultural development projects in Latin America and the Caribbean. Applications must be submitted before January 31 of 2012 to the IDB offices found in 26 Latin American and Caribbean countries. Created in 1994, the IDB Cultural Development Grant Program encourages groundbreaking projects that promote the recovery and preservation of traditions as well as the conservation of the cultural heritage, with the goal of contributing to the sustainable development of communities through economic and social activities. The projects are evaluated for their viability, educational potential, effective use of resources, ability to gather additional financial resources, and long-term impact in the community. The IDB may grant the selected projects with subsidies ranging between 3,000 and 7,000 USD. Local organizations are responsible for providing the remainder of the resources and see through their complete implementation. In 2011 24 community-based institutions from 23 countries were chosen to receive grants under this program.
