Cecilia Vicuña's First Retrospective in Spain

The Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo in Madrid, CA2M, presents the exhibition Cecilia Vicuña: Veroír el Fracaso organized by Kunstinstituut Melly (formerly known as Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art) in Rotterdam and the CA2M. The first retrospective of the Chilean artist in Spain, which has the support of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage of Chile’s government, the exhibition opened on February 20 and can be visited until July 11, 2021.
The exhibition, curated by the Peruvian Miguel A. López, brings together more than one hundred works that are shown for the first time in Spain. The show reflects on the artist's permanent commitment with themes that include eroticism, colonial legacies, liberation actions, collective happiness, indigenous thought, and environmental devastation.
Since the sixties, Cecilia Vicuña has posed a radical perspective on the relationship between art and politics through her writing and artistic production. Something that she has been developing in different parts of the world since she left Chile for London in 1972 until moving to the United States in 1980. She currently lives and works between New York and Santiago de Chile.
