The São Paulo Museum of Art (MASP) presents Hulda Guzmán: Miracle Fruits, the first solo museum exhibition dedicated to Dominican artist Hulda Guzmán. Curated by Amanda Carneiro, the show is open to the public until August 24, 2025, as part of MASP’s annual program Histories of Ecology.
Featuring 18 paintings—eight of them created specifically for this occasion—the exhibition brings together scenes inhabited by real and imaginary figures, set in tropical landscapes that challenge exotic stereotypes. Far from idyllic, Guzmán portrays nature as an active and interconnected space, where architecture, humanity, and the environment coexist in harmony.
Her work blends autobiographical elements with references to modern art, surrealism, and visual traditions from Latin America and Asia, resulting in richly detailed compositions that invite close observation. The exhibition encourages reflection on community life and the urgent need to reconnect with nature in the face of ecological crisis.
MASP will also publish a bilingual catalogue featuring original essays and over one hundred images, and will provide accessibility resources to ensure inclusive access for diverse audiences.
