First Performance Art Biennial in Argentina – BP.15

The first edition of the Performance Art Biennial, to be held in different art spaces in the Argentine cities of Buenos Aires, Mar del Plata, Neuquén, and San Juan, can be visited through June 7th. The event involves more than 100 renowned artists, both local and international, practicing different artistic disciplines and presenting more than 20 projects. The Performance Art Biennial is presented with the intention of displaying the many expressive possibilities of the genre, which has a recognized tradition in Argentina. Besides the presence of renowned figures in the field, the event will feature actions conceived specifically for the occasion, thus providing a space for experimentation exploring the fine line that separates different disciplines such as drama, dance, music, new media, and installation. The roster of participants is the result of a painstaking selection by the curators of the institutions that are part of the biennial, among them Casa Nacional del Bicentenario, Centro de Arte Experimental UNSM, Parque de la Memoria, MACBA, MALBA, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Fundación Proa, and arteBa, along with the Biennial's advisory council and the biennial's director, Graciela Casabé. Among the artists are Marina Abramovic, Sophie Calle, Liu Bolin, Laurie Anderson, Tania Bruguera, Edgardo Rudnitzky, Martín Sastre, Marta Minujín, colectivo Mondongo, JorgeMacchi, Amalia Pica, Diego Bianchi, Luis Garay, Ana Gallardo, Emilio García Webhi, Gabo Ferro, Mariana Obersztern, Provisorio Permanente, Fernando Rubio, Martín Bauer, Alejandro Cesarco, Diana Szeinblum, Nicolás Varchausky, Juan Onofri, Matías Sendón, Osías Yanov, Leonello Zambón, and Eugenia González. Over the course of the 42 days that the Biennial is scheduled to last, audiences will be able to enjoy a program that includes live presentations, actions, shows, seminars, and workshops, some of which will be streamed online via YouTube and Google+. The Biennial's artistic proposal is complemented with an important, simultaneous academic platform. For more information and the complete program: http://bp15.org/
