Prince Klaus Award

The Prince Klaus Awards ceremony will take place on December 10th, 2014, at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam. This award is given in recognition to its recipients positive impact on a cultural o social field. The Principal Prince Claus Laureate went to Abel Rodríguez (1941, Colombia), artist, plant expert and Nonuya community elder. In the 1990s in the midst of the armed conflict, he began to create exquisite intricate drawings and paintings that are esteemed in both art and scientific circles for their unique qualities. Rodríguez' work demonstrates the value and relevance of indigenous knowledge for the common good. Among the recipients this year is independent curator and writer Rosina Cazali, from Guatemala, a contributor to ArtNexus. Her sharp essays and her efforts to promote exceptional talent for a growing audience are helping create a space in the modern cultural scene for the arts of Central America. Also to receive an award are: Tran Luong (Vietnam, 1960), visual and performance artist and independent curator. SPARROW (India, 1988), Sound & Picture Archives for Research on Women. Museo Itinerante de Arte por la Memoria (Peru, 2009), interdisciplinary collective. Gülsün Karamustafa (Turkey, 1946), visual artist. Lia Rodrigues (Brazil, 1966), dancer and choreographer. Lav Diaz (Philippines, 1958), filmmaker. FX Harsono (Indonesia, 1949), visual artist. Invisible Borders (Nigeria, 2009), multidisciplinary travel initiative.
