"Omar Carreño" Visual Arts Award 2015

The Colegio de Arquitectos de Venezuela, in partnership with the Asociación Venezolana de Artistas Plásticos (AVAP) and the International Association of Art Critics (AICA), presented the third edition of the "Omar Carreño" Visual Arts Award to recognize the important trajectory of several visual artists. The jury formed by María Luz Cárdenas, Humberto Cazorla, Marta de la Vega, Bélgica Rodríguez, and Abigaíl Varela, granted the award in different categories to the following artists: Jorge Pizzani received the Painting Award; Gaudí Esté, the Sculpture Award; Eugenio Espinoza, the Conceptual Art Award; Nan González, the Multimedia Award; Bernardo Mazzei, the Industrial Design Award; and Martín Shoffel, the Young Artist Award. A Posthumous Recognition Award was granted to Venezuelan painter Luisa Richter. This award was created in honor of visual artist Omar Carreño, who died in 2013. Carreño was an important protagonist in Venezuelan modern art. He was a precursor of the concept of transformable art and, thus, of expansionist abstract art. The award ceremony was organized at the Galería Freites in Caracas.
