31st Caja de Extremadura International Painting Prize

The regional savings bank Caja de Extremadura announces its 31st International Painting Prize taking place in 2009. It is an international award that, throughout its existence, has allowed for the exchange of artistic languages among Spanish and international artists. It offers a panoramic and very complete view of painting, and has become a showcase for artists to observe new artistic currents; but above all, it has served as a great incentive for young artists contemplating the possibility of embarking on an artistic career. On this occasion, the prize has allocated a total of 63,000 Euros, of which 33,000 will be awarded to the winning artist, and the remainder will be used to purchase some of the artworks that participate in the event. The competition is open to artists from the European Union and Latin America. Each may submit no more than two original artworks created between 2007 and 2009 that are owned by them and that have never before been exhibited. The works selected by the jury will be included in an exhibition at the Aula de Cultura (Cultural Hall) in Plasencia at and in other venues that participate in the competition. Additionally, Caja de Extremadura will sponsor ¿ in the region and within the period of a year ¿ an exhibition with works by the winning artist.
