The Italian Cultural Association MoCA (Modern Contemporary Art), in collaboration with Arte Laguna, announces the seventh edition of its International Art Prize "Arte Laguna", aimed at assessing and promoting contemporary art. The Prize is divided into five categories: painting, sculpture and installation, photography, virtual art, video art and performance. Participants can choose any the subject for their works. The event will offer a total purse of 170,000 euros in prizes.
The call is open to all artists without any limit of age, sex, nationality or other qualifications. Each artist may participate with one or more works in one or more categories.
Artists interested in participating must enter their applications before November 27 of 2012, if applications are sent by mail (date as postmark), or by December 5 of 2012, if applications are entered online.
The following criteria must be taken into account to participate in any category:
Painting – works created with any technical or stylistic approach—oil, tempera, acrylic, ink, vinyl, watercolor, graphite, pencil, collage, etc.—on any support—canvas, paper, wood, plastics, iron, etc. The maximum size allowed for each work is 175 cm (68.9 in.) per side. It is possible to submit polyptych as one single work, as long as they stay within the overall 175 cm (68.9 in.); they must be submitted as multiple works if the total size exceeds 175 cm (68.9 in.) .
Sculpture and Installation – works created with any organic or inorganic material. The works may use sounds, lights, videos, mechanical or electrical movements. It is possible to present the works as digital photographic projects. The maximum size allowed for each work is: base 4 meters, depth 4 meters, height 8 meters, and no weight limits. If selected as a finalist for the collective exhibition, the author must give the organization all the materials necessary for the work to be exhibited.
Photographic Art – color and black and white analog photos; color and black and white digital photos; works created on the computer. The maximum size allowed for each work is 175 cm (68.9 in.) per side.
Video Art and Animation – videos, films and works made with any animation techniques created with any digital or analog camera. Works cannot be longer than 15 minutes, opening titles and closing credits included. For the final exhibition artists have to send the original works saved on DVD in high quality and in formats compatible with the mostly used reading systems.
Performance – Every artist or group of artists can participate with one or more performances, use any technique, expressive form and support materials. Finalist artists will perform live on the opening night and will have to provide all necessary materials for the realization of the performance.
Each performance can last up to 10 minutes long. Copyright and SIAE rights must be provided for works with non-original music or images.
Virtual Art - iFOPE: works entirely created using computer software, graphics, and 3D animations; artworks and videos created using smartphone or tablet applications; virtual installations, net art.
The International Art Prize "Arte Laguna" received a medal from the President of the Italian Republic, with the patronage of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Veneto Region, the Municipality of Venice, Cà Foscari University of Venice, and the European Institute of Design, among others. The competition offers cash prizes, the opportunity to participate in an important collective exhibition in Venice, exhibitions in art galleries, art residencies and the publication of the official catalog.
