The Cultural Innovation International Prize is a new biannual competition created by the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) to mark the institution's twentieth anniversary. The event aims at encouraging the development of projects that explore the likely cultural scenarios of coming years through research and practice. The prize offers a purse of 10,000.00 euros for the development of the project selected. The theme for the 2014-2015 edition of the event is: Audience/s The Cultural Innovation International Prize is born from the conviction that there is a large creative reserve in cultural institutions and out of them. One of the central ideas that have inspired this Prize is building bridges between the innovation ability of the citizenry and knowledge, and the accumulated experience of the institutions that service the community. Candidates competing for the prize must a project that creates, produces and/or presents the cultural content whose format, theme and/or approach answers to the following—or to other—questions in an innovative manner: What does an audience in cultural centers, museums and analog spaces mean to us today? What is the meaning of this concept at a time when the boundaries between physical and virtual space are beginning to merge, blur and disappear? Has the classic paradigm whereby the public would passively follow—or, at best, participate by playing a secondary role in the proposals of museums and galleries—been altered? What are the new models currently applied in this field? What are the actual needs of the public? Can these needs be satisfied by museums and other cultural institutions? What innovations could be introduced to meet them? ¿Which are the necessary changes to face the challenges associated with the audience(s) in the coming years? Participating projects must be theoretically based and offer an analysis of the specific acting environment that each intends to occur, following the structure established in the rules of the competition. The jury panel is formed by Marcos García, Director of MediaLab, Prado; Nina Simon, Director of the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History (MAH), in California, US; Mark Miller, Coordinator of Youth Programs at Tate, in London, UK, and National Director of the Circuit program in the same institution; Johan Moerman, Director of the Rotterdam Festivals; Conxa Rodà, Chief of Strategies and Communications of the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC), in Barcelona, Spain; and Juan Insua of CCCB, where he has worked since 1993 in various positions and taken on many responsibilities. The jury will award the most innovative project based on the following criteria: originality of the proposal; conceptual and methodological rigor; innovation in the form of the relationship established with the public; the mainstreaming of actions and methods; social impact and feasibility of the project. The deadline to enter all applications is February 5 of 2015. The complete rules and application forms are available at:
