BMW Painting Prize

BMW is calling for submissions to its Painting Prize, now under the slogan "We share with you our passion for art." The call is open to Spanish artists, or foreign-born artists residing in Spain, who have not won the prize in their category in previous editions. Subjects and techniques are free, as long an they do not allude to any commercial trademark or brand. Participants can submit only one work, which must not be participating in any other competition. Submissions will be received between September 10 and 30, 2014 in Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, and Valencia, in locations specified in the Prize's rules. The BMW Painting Prize is the main distinction to be awarded and has a financial incentive of €25,000. As in previous years, the Mario Antolín Fellowship in Support of Pictorial Investigation will also be awarded, with an endowment of €8,000. This fellowship will be awarded to three of the youngest participants selected for the exhibition, whose work displays the greatest artistic and pictorial quality. Among the innovations for this 29th edition of the competition is the Innovation Prize, with an endowment of €6,000, intended to foster exploration in search of new knowledge of new pictorial solutions through research. Finally, the BMW Prize for Young Talent, with €4,000, will also be awarded, reserved for children between the ages of 8 and 12 and featuring also 10 Honor Medals. For the Young Talent Prize, accepted techniques will be pencil or wax pencil drawing, watercolor, or gouache, with paper as support in all cases. The names of the winners will be announced in November, and the awards ceremony will be held at the Royal Theater, presided by Queen Sofía. The BMW Painting Prize, intended to promote painting and the discovery of new talents in Spain, has received since its first edition in 1986 submissions by 20,000 artists of many nationalities, in all styles and pictorial schools.
