Colección 1800 Prize

The names of the winners of the Colección 1800 Prize, intended to promote the production and commercialization of contemporary art and featured by Tequila 1800 and Zona MACO, were made public in April, 2013. Competing artists were nominated by galleries participating in Zona MACO 2013.

The jury, coordinated by Ercila Gómez Maqueo, director of Fomento Cultural Cuervo, included Carlos Palacios, Cecilia Vásquez Gutiérrez and Santiago Espinosa de los Monteros.

The work of more than 100 artists was presented to the jury which, after a pre-selection, voted to nominate 19 finalists.

The Colección 1800 Prize, with an increased monetary award with respect to previous editions, was given in two categories: Mid-Career Artists and Emerging Artists.

First-prize winner in the Mid-Career category was Marie Lund, for her sculpture Mármol. In the Emerging Artist category, the winner was Agustín González for his painting Naufragio.

Taking into account the large quantity and high quality of the participating proposals, the jury also awarded Manuel Rocha for La tension extendida, and Runa Lagomarsino for Runo is not a nation, both cited for their quality and propositive impact.
