Pivot Points V: Teresita Fernández

North Miami

The Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami (MOCANOMI), presents the retrospective exhibition entitled Pivot Points V by artist Teresita Fernández (Miami, 1968). Open to the public until February 12 of 2012, the exhibition will display the most important works by Fernández, including her Untitled (Swimming Pool). Pivot Points are exhibitions organized by MOCANOMI and are aimed at showcasing those artworks regarded as central to both the development of contemporary art and to the artistic career of an artist. Thus the selection of Fernández¿s as the artist to be showcased in the fifth Pivot Points. Teresita Fernández attracted the interest of MOCANOMI in 1995 while she was still completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Florida International University. In 1996, Fernández was included in the exhibition entitled Defining the Nineties. On that occasion, she exhibited alongside well-known artists like Matthew Barney and Damien Hirst. Fernández participated with the work Untitled (Swimming Pool), which was donated to the Museum by Rosa and Carlos de la Cruz. A seminal work by Fernández, the piece became the first installation exhibited in the Pavilion Gallery of MOCA. Today, the Museum recognizes the important body of work of this Miami-born artist.
