PhotoEspaña 2011

The photography festival PHotoEspaña 2011 will take place in Madrid from June 1 to July 24, under the directorship of Claude Bussac. In this occasion, the cities of Lisboa, Cuenca, and Alcalá de Henares will also be co-hosting the event. This, the fourteenth edition of the event, will offer 68 exhibitions, 21 as part of the Official Selection, 6 at OpenPHoto, 11 at Other Venues, and 32 as part of the Off Festival, across 61 spaces, including museums, galleries, art centers, and exhibition halls. The Festival will welcome the participation of 370 artists and creators from 55 countries. Gerardo Mosquera will be the curator of the Official Section, which will center on a thematic entitled Interfaces: Portrait and Communication and Various Special Projects. The exhibition program will include three more sections: OpenPHoto Cuenca, which will integrate proposals from embassies and international cultural institutions; and the Off Festival, which will include the best artistic proposals from the art galleries in Madrid. Some of the most prominent names participating in this edition¿s proposed program include: Nancy Burson, Hans-Peter Feldmann, Dayanita Singh, and Thomas Ruff, among others. The festival will also present, as it does every year, 60 events that will run concurrently with the exhibitions. These include: workshops, debates, seminars, and street "performances".
