The Instituto de Arte Contemporânea - IAC inaugurated "Paulo Bruscky: Actitud Política," an exhibition curated by Jacopo Crivelli Visconti. The show celebrates the arrival of Bruscky's work to the institution's collection and focuses on delving into the artist's personal archive, bringing together letters, works, poems, press, and documents of other artists. This is the artist's first solo exhibition that reads Bruscky's work and archive in light of his commitment to political struggles and resistance, a central theme in his artistic oeuvre.
Bruscky's artistic production is crossed by a resistance and critique to totalitarian political regimes but also to the institutionalization of art, his work moves between mail art, collage, "found and adapted" objects, installation, and performance. Richard Leslie in an individual review of the artist published in ArtNexus writes about Bruscky's art that “Social repression makes art a last resort, an individualized “last hope” in the face of barricaded and closed pathways.”
The Instituto de Arte Contemporânea - IAC is a documentation and research center. It was founded by Raquel Arnaud in 1997 with the aim of preserving a large collection of documents related to the work of Brazilian artists.
"Paulo Bruscky: Political Attitude" will be on view until August 5, 2023.
