Pasa Causa

This exhibition presented works by 64 artists who graduated from several art schools in Lima. The goal was to offer their works at affordable prices. The show included photographs, engravings, drawings, paintings, sculptures, digital prints, ceramics and industrial design. In order to make for a more interesting exhibition, organizers invited prominent artists like Eduardo Tokeshi, Enrique Polanco, Christian Bendayan, Jaime Higa, Gilda Mantilla, Enrique de la Cruz, Samuel Guitierrez, Marie Elena Alvarado and Raimond Chavez. Andrés Ennen and Andrea Elera, both founders of Pasa Causa, were respectively the exhibition's curator and cultural manager. The gallery waved any commissions from the sales price of the works, so all proceeds went to the artists. Andrea Elera is also an artist and a cultural and educational projects manager and has worked at the department of educational projects of the Museo de Arte in Lima (MALI). Andrés Ennen is an independent curator and artist who has organized and curated several exhibitions. He is currently participating in the workshop of the 31st São Paulo Biennial. The goal of the exhibition was to create artistic venues that were not fairs, biennials or exclusive galleries. Another goal was to promote emerging art and to offer a place that can present new artists in the context of a new cultural project. The exhibition remained open for one month, the same amount of time that it would have lasted in a gallery. Yet another objective of this exhibition was to promote art collecting. Both artists and buyers benefit from exhibitions of this type. Because of the great number of artists that exist, events like these become very important. It was through exhibitions like this one that Jean Michel Basquiat was discovered by the Annina Nosei Gallery. Other galleries are also attracted to this type of exhibition in their quest for new talent.
