One of the shows held in Athens is "Gods Becoming Men", curated by Edward Lucie-Smith, at the Frissiras Museum Athens. The exhibition aims to offer works by artists who live and work far from the major art centres, thus including artists from Jamaica, Estonia, India and Israel, who produce their work in their countries of origin. The curatorial job establishes a game of contradictory concepts parting from the idea of those who -just as in the Olympic Games- come as semi-gods, and return as mortal men and women, after having participated and lost. "Monument to Now", is another exhibition held in Athens, and bond to the Olympic festivities. The exhibition features nothing less than the collection of Dakis Joannou, an important contemporary art collector, who counted on the help of various curators in the organization and integration of the show and in the exhibition of excellent artworks by Jeff Koons, Cindy Sherman, Tom Sachs, Gabriel Orozco, Juan Muñoz and Takashi Murakami among others. ARTIADE 2004 is the name of the visual arts exhibition being held in parallel to the Athens summer Olympics. Artists from all the countries participating in the Olympics were selected for the exhibition, among them artists from several Latin American countries, such as: Tomás Ochoa, Ecuador; Roberto Padilla, Argentina; Carlos Estévez, Ibrahim Miranda and Esterio Segura, Cuba; and Jorge Pineda, Dominican Republic, among others. The exhibition has been organized by the ARTIADE cultural foundation.
