Paraísos y jardines. La naturaleza representada. Colección de Arte del Banco de la República (Paradises and Gardens. Nature Represented. Art Collection of the Banco de la República)

The first version of this exhibition was at the Museo del Oro Quimbaya in Armenia in 2022. With this new version, presented in Bogotá, the exhibition delves into the revision of the Banco de la República Collection to present works that are usually in the archives collection. On display are 147 works gathered around the concept of the garden, understood as an anthropocentric representation of the world where elements of nature are used. In addition, the exhibition aims to generate a kind of nostalgia for lost paradises. The viewer will be able to find pieces of different media such as video and painting, and different authors and periods.
The curatorial guide provides definitions of the garden, its historical relationship with the idea of paradise, its representations in Colombian art, and how nature has been domesticated. It includes the courtyard, solar, front yard, park, the presence of trees, leaves, flowers, ancestral plants, and even the relationship with death, the beliefs surrounding it and eternal life.
The group exhibition Paraísos y jardines. La naturaleza representada (Paradises and Gardens. Nature Represented) under the curatorship of Luis Fernando Ramírez Celis will be open to the public until July 14 at the Museo Miguel Urrutia of the Banco de la República.
