Pablo José Ramírez has been appointed as Associate Curator at the Hammer Museum. Last year the same institution announced Ramirez as co-curator of "Made in L.A. 2023: Acts of Living" with independent curator Diana Nawi. In a press release, Ramirez noted that one of his main goals in this new position will be to "contribute to the advancement of a program fostered by anti-colonial and diasporic histories."
Pablo José Ramírez (Guatemala, 1982) earned a master's in Contemporary Art Theory from Goldsmiths, University of London. He also has extensive curatorial experience, with a special emphasis on decolonial narratives. Some exhibitions curated by Ramírez are: "Beyond, The Sea Sings: Diasporic Intimacies and Labour," Times Art, Berlin (2021), and "The Measure of Silence: Lawrence Abu Hamdan," NuMu, Guatemala (2020). In addition, the Hammer Museum's new curator is interested in indigenous and non-Western practices; with this vision in mind, he played a central role in shaping the Tate Museum's indigenous art acquisitions strategy.
The Hammer Museum created this new position with Ford Foundation grant funding.
