Out of the Box - 20 years of Schaulager

Schaulager (Laurenz Foundation) recently opened an extensive group exhibition on the occasion of its 20-year celebration. Most of the works presented have entered the collection of the Emanuel Hoffmann Foundation in recent years. One focus is on time-based media works.
The title OUT OF THE BOX illustrates the basic idea that Schaulager has been pursuing since it opened in 2003: freeing works of art from the storage boxes and making them accessible for research and conservation, as well as for school classes and university groups. However, this title is also a reference to the complex installations, so-called time-based media works, which have increasingly been acquired for the collection in recent years and are presented in their own projection boxes distributed throughout the exhibition space.
The public moves freely in this landscape of boxes to discover a wealth of paintings, drawings, sculptures and photos from the collection of the Emanuel Hoffmann Foundation. These, too, sometimes make a tongue-in-cheek reference to the main theme of the box, the crate. Music, body, space and architecture are the focal points of the exhibition.
