The Universidad Nacional de Córdoba paid tribute to Argentinean artist Liliana Porter by granting her the 400 Years Academic Cultural Award, a distinction given by this house of higher learning since 2011. Based in the United States for many decades, Porter is regarded as a pioneer of contemporary art who incorporates Latin American elements through the conceptual content in her works. She also stands out for relying on several artistic mediums, like engraving, drawing, installation, public art, video, and stage sets to explore her philosophical inquiries and reflections on representation, the concept of time, and on that undefined space between images and that which we deem real. The introductory speech about Liliana Porter was given by Professor Cristina Rocca, who referred to Porter as "an undisputed referent of contemporary art." Rocca ended her statement by saying: "Because her work and trajectory demonstrate her ability to pose questions before answers, for her tireless predisposition to be amazed and unwavering curiosity about the world, and because that attitude opens new spaces of thought approached from art, the Art Department of the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba has decided to grant Liliana Porter the 400 Years Academic Cultural Award." A retrospective exhibition of Liliana Porter's work at the Museo Emilio Caraffa was inaugurated on August 4 and will remain open to the public until September 29 of 2016.
