After successful shows in Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Germany, Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, and Spain, Food of War is presented at Saatchi in London.
Omar Castañeda and Hernán Barrios, two Colombian artists, based in London, England, formed the collective Food of War in 2010. The artists reflect on the relationship between food and social, political, and economic conflicts; through different multisensory experiences that expose the complexity of the human being to develop high-impact projects that will raise awareness of the implications of eating beyond its nutritional relevance and its tastes.
The exhibition was entitled "The Forbidden Journey: Food & Conflict in challenging times" and was on view from October 5 to 8. Included works by: Marina Abramovic, Adriana Ramírez, Raúl Marroquín, Esteban Peña, Juan Ricardo Mejía, Clara Garrido, Ismael Manco, Mario Vélez, among others. Each of the works evokes food insecurity due to environmental consequences, waste treatment, and restrictions on certain types of food due to war or market volatility.
