Olafur Eliasson at Versailles

From June through November, 2016, the Palace of Versailles will be presenting the work of Olafur Eliasson, an artist who in the course of his career has explored themes of perception, motion, personal experience, and emotion. Since 2008, the Palace of Versailles has presented a number of temporary exhibitions devoted to French and international artist. The program began that year with Jeff Koons and continued in 2009 with Xavier Veilhan; Takashi Murakami, in 2010; Bernar Venet, in 2011; Joana Vasconcelos, in 2012; Giuseppe Penone, in 2013; Lee Ufan, in 2014; and Anish Kapoor, in 2015. The work of this roster of artists established a dialog with the Palace and the Versailles Gardens. Since 2013, the curator of these project has been Alfred Pacquement. "I am extremely pleased to be working with such an emblematic site as Versailles," said the artist. "Both the Palace and the Gardens are rich in history and political meaning, dreams and visions; it is an exhilarating challenge to create an artistic intervention that alters a visitor's sensation in this place and offers a contemporary perspective on its potent tradition. I see art as a co-producer of reality, or our sense of now, of society and global community. It is truly inspiring to have an opportunity to co-produce, through art, a perception of Versailles."
