A Work by Matta Will be Part of the IVAM Collection

The collection of the Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno (IVAM) has been enriched with the donation of the work entitled Espejo de la Memoria (Mirror of Memory) by Roberto Matta. The work was presented to Consuelo Ciscar, the director of the Museum, by the artist's widow Germana Matta. The work, an oil on canvas image created in 1996, was part of Roberto Matta's private collection and embodies the artist's vitality through the use of a lively, brilliant, and intense tonal scale. Matta is one of the most important figures in the art of the Twentieth Century, because of his role as a member of the surrealist group, his enormous influence in the development of abstract expressionism in the U.S.; and, most importantly, for being a visionary artist and a pioneer in the interaction between art, science, and nature, as well a promoter of the central role art plays in the integral development of human beings.
