Colombian artist Ivan Argote was nominated along with the Italian Giulia Andreani, the Swiss Philippe Decrauzat and the French Mimosa Echard for the Marcel Duchamp Prize 2022, considered one of the most relevant awards in the contemporary art scene. The distinction is equivalent to the Turner Prize and is given annually to an artist who will win an artistic residency in the United States through Villa Albertine and the amount of 35,000 euros.
The nominees consider different formats and conceptual interests, redefining today's artistic work and, therefore, the latest versions of the prize. Argote has worked in media such as sculpture and video, often with humor, challenging the viewer's perception and introducing alternative or unofficial narratives about historical complex processes.
The finalists' works will be exhibited at the Pompidou Center in Paris, from October 5, 2022 to January 12, 2023. The winner will be selected by an international panel of judges and will be announced on October 17 of this year.
