The Luis Caballero Award, the most important for the Colombian visual arts, as part of the first phase announced the nominees for the XI edition, which will take place in 2021. The award, which bears the renowned Colombian artist's name, was created in 1996 and is convened by the Instituto Distrital de las Artes-IDARTES.
On this occasion, 43 proposals were presented, and 41 were qualified to be evaluated by the jury. For the finalists' nomination, the jury was made up by María del Rosario López, María Buenaventura, Guillermo Alexander Vanegas, and Yhonathan Virguez. These had as parameters the trajectory of the participants, conceptual and formal solidity of the proposal, the technical and economic viability of the project, and contribution to the field of fine and visual arts.
The nominees for the award are: Nadia Michelle Granados, with the Colombianización proposal; Maria Isabel Rueda, Al Final del Mundo; María Isabel Arango, Inestabilidad Incalculable; Giovanni Steve Vargas, Rojo; Jaime Alberto Franco, Barro; Juan David Obando, La Bodeguita de la Concordia; Iván Daniel Navarro, Mancha Roja, and Adrián Felipe Gaitán, Para Los Tiempos Que Corren. It remained as a substitute proposal in case of inability or resignation by one of the nominees, Hernando Velandia, El Lugar del Aliento.
The second phase of the award consists of choosing the winner after all the exhibition projects are presented to the public.
